The Maundy Thursday worship service at Spanish Springs Presbyterian Church will begin at 7:00 p.m.
We will be having a Tenebrae service on Maundy Thursday, April 6th at 7:00 pm. Communion will be celebrated. A Tenebrae service is a service of darkness with music and scripture readings. It portrays the events leading to the death of Jesus on the cross as the lights are extinguished ending in darkness. It’s a very moving service and we hope you will come join us as we celebrate Holy Week.
Maundy Thursday (also known as Holy Thursday, Covenant Thursday, Great and Holy Thursday, Sheer Thursday, and Thursday of Mysteries, among other names) is the Christian holy day falling on the Thursday before Easter. It commemorates the Washing of the Feet (Maundy) and Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles, as described in the canonical gospels.
It is the fifth day of Holy Week, preceded by Holy Wednesday (Spy Wednesday) and followed by Good Friday. “Maundy” comes from the Latin word mandatum, or commandment, reflecting Jesus’ words “I give you a new commandment.”
